Resonse to NETS-T Standard 2

Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:

  1. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
  2. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
  3. customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.
  4. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

  Summary:

  • Teachers develop lessons and assessments using contemporary tools and resources
  • Promote creativity by using digital tools and resources in learning experiences
  • Allow students to use their own creativity to be actively involved in the learning and assessment process
  • Incorporate differentiated learning
  • Provide different types of assessment and use the results as an aid to your teaching

Strengths:  I provide different types of assessments and use the results to determine what I need to re-cover or if my students are ready to move on to something more difficult.  I also incorporate differentiated learning to address the different learning styles in my classroom.  I use resources from the internet during my planning.

Weaknesses: I do not have a technology enriched learning environment or incorporate technology standards into my classroom.

Response to NETS-T Standard 1

a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.

Summary:

  • Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter to integrate creativity through different mediums
  • Teachers model creative thinking
  • Encourage students to explore things and solve problems using digital tools
  • Allow the students to reflect creatively
  • Teachers use technology as a learning tool to advance the student in many areas
  • Teachers share knowledge with students and colleagues in person and in virtual environments

Strengths:  I allow my students to reflect in different ways, such as verbal, drawing a picture, or using manipulatives. I also use different manipulatives in the classroom and during instructional time. I collaborate with my colleagues face-to-face and through email. I also use the internet for ideas in the subject I am teaching.

Weaknesses:  I do not use technology to facilitate experiences in the classroom.  I do not let the children solve problems or explore using digital tools or resources.
